Wellington Water was the council-controlled organisation that operated 3-waters infrastructure for Wellington City, Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and South Wairarapa. It was replaced by Tiaki Wai on 1 July 2026, which is now the operational point of contact for locates, network planning and outage response across the region.
As a council operator, Wellington Water is responsible for stormwater, wastewater, drinking water across its district. Anyone planning excavation work - building, fencing, landscaping or trenching - must identify and protect their underground pipes before breaking ground.
